Short University Profile

In the 21st century, sport has developed into one of the most striking social phenomena worldwide.

The College for Sport and Management Potsdam is a non-profit organisation of the Landessportbund Brandenburg (LSB) which has developed an independent, specific profile focusing on sport and health. The college's teaching and research transcends boundaries, cultivates relationships to other fields and establishes practice-oriented networks.

With the increased importance of sport for society as a whole, an enhanced understanding of the field has emerged which includes athletic movement in preventive and therapeutic contexts, as well as the organisational management of companies in the sport and movement industry. As a result of these developments, sport science is also currently undergoing a phase of transition.

At the same time, there is a growing demand for academically trained specialists, as well as for reliable knowledge and its effective transfer. The increasing social and individual challenges for sport also create new challenges for education and training which go beyond the traditional responsibilities of sport science.

On the one hand, demands placed on the established, integrative disciplines of movement and training science are increasing due to a growing complexity in the development of athletic performance. Changes in social needs – for example the growing importance of health promotion and disease prevention – contribute to the development of new interdisciplinary teaching and research fields, such as sport and health. On the other hand, the increasing number of businesses and facilities in the sports and health sector need specialists who are able to combine specific sport knowledge with management and organisation.
