Biografie

Nach dem Abitur studierte Prof. Dr. Behrens bis 2009 Sport- und Sozialwissenschaften für das Lehramt an Gymnasien an der Universität Rostock. Anschließend hat er seine kumulative Dissertation am Institut für Sportwissenschaft der Universität Rostock und der Universitätsmedizin Rostock angefertigt, die 2014 abgeschlossen und durch ein Landesgraduiertenstipendium sowie Drittmittel finanziert wurde. Im Rahmen seiner Post-Doc Phase war er am Institut für Sportwissenschaft der Universität Rostock, im Arbeitsbereich Gesundheit und körperliche Aktivität des Instituts für Sportwissenschaft der Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg sowie an der Orthopädischen Klinik und Poliklinik der Universitätsmedizin Rostock tätig. In dieser Zeit fertigte Prof. Dr. Behrens seine kumulative Habilitation an, die er Anfang 2024 abgeschlossen hat.  

Seine wissenschaftliche Arbeit ist naturwissenschaftlich ausgerichtet, kombiniert verschiedene methodische Ansätze und beschäftigt sich primär mit der Funktion und Adaptabilität verschiedener (neuro)physiologischer Systeme (z. B. motorisches und kardiorespiratorisches System) von gesunden und kranken Menschen aller Altersklassen. In diesem Kontext werden die generelle Funktion motorisch relevanter psychophysiologischer Systeme sowie die Auswirkungen akuter Interventionen (z. B. motorische und kognitive Ermüdung, ergogene Supplemente, Blutflussrestriktion, ischämische Präkonditionierung, Hypoxie) und chronischer Interventionen (z. B. Kraft-, Balance-, Ausdauer-, plyometrisches, multimodales Training, Hypoxie-Hyperoxie Exposition) auf die Leistungsfähigkeit und die zugrundeliegenden Mechanismen untersucht. Die Studien und Projekte wurden und werden in Zusammenarbeit mit diversen Kooperierenden verschiedenster Fachrichtungen (z. B. Psychologie, Orthopädie, Unfallchirurgie, Neurologie, Elektrotechnik), Olympiastützpunkten, Sportverbänden, Vereinen und Unternehmen durchgeführt. Prof. Dr. Behrens war bei der Einwerbung kompetitiver Drittmittel bei diversen Institutionen beteiligt (z. B. EU, BISp, BMWK, Arthrosehilfe e. V., FORUN-Programm), hat verschiedene Preise sowie personenbezogene Förderungen erhalten (z. B. Hermes- und GOTS-Forschungsförderpreis, Landesgraduiertenförderung, DAAD) und forschte im Rahmen diverser Drittmittelprojekte (z. B. BMBF, BISp, BMWK, EU, DFG).
